Wilson with a strong finish in the Firecracker 150! - Posted on July 6th, 2009
David Wilson nearly came home with the checkered flag this past Friday night at TCMS. 19 cars showed up for the largest race of the year at TCMS for NASCAR late model action.

After practice the car was very fast and everyone knew LFR would be in contention for the win. David's crew chief/spotter tried some new stuff with air pressure and stagger for qualifying but did not get the result he was hoping for as David turned in the 7th fastest time of the night. "We knew the car was great with the race set up so we weren't worried at all after qualifying. It is a 150 laps, there will be plenty of time," Wilson said after qualifying.

After starting 7th, David rode there saving his tires and not racing with anyone for the first 80 laps. When he needed to pass a car, he did. David slowly started making his way to the front and made it to 3rd with about 25 laps to go. At this point Kevin Leight was leading, Ryan Gilford second, and David third. After running Gilford down from over a straightaway, David quickly moved past into second place. All LFR needed now was a caution to put David on the outside of the leader. The caution flew with 5 laps to go putting Dave to the outside of Leight.

The strategy was playing out perfectly until the green flew again and Leight supposedly missed a shift, which miraculously made him turn right into David, sending the 25 car into the outside wall. Still getting smashed into the wall by turn one, Dave had to lift allowing Gilford to make a charge for the win. David got back underneath Gilford coming off of turn 4 for the checkered flag, but it was not engouh as David came home in third spot. LFR and Wilson were obviously disappointed that they were raced like that at the end, but it was a good points night and the team was proud of their efforts in the Firecracker 150.
