Patience pays off for Wilson in Huffman Memorial - Posted on July 13th, 2009

After a solid second place run in the Firecracker 150 on Friday night, David Wilson took the Wilson Excavators, Lee Faulk Racing chevrolet to a third place finish in the 177 lap Dwight Huffman memorial at Hickory Motor Speedway.

42 cars entered this event and David unloaded off the trailer fast all day in practice. After qualifying 17th, patience seemed to be the key in navigating his way to the front by the end of the race. Wilson made his way to the top 10 by lap 50 and then just roded to save his tires for the end.

"We knew there were going to be a lot of torn up race cars, our goal was to break the race down into three 50 lap segments which gave us short term goals within the race to work towards" Wilson said after the race.

The strategy worked perfect as David passed Jake Crum and Kyle Grissom with 10 laps to go. Wilson started to run Rodenback down for second but just ran out of time. All in all it was a great night for David and Lee Faulk Racing. The team was the highest finishing Hickory regular and should be leading the state points after Canipe Jr recorded a 20th place finish.

Lee Faulk Racing looks forward to getting back to HMS this coming Saturday night and trying to improve on the solid third place finish.
