2 poles, 1 win for Wilson this weekend! - Posted on July 26th, 2009

What a crazy weekend it was for Icon 25 driver David Wilson. It started off at Tri County speedway in his #25 late model stock where he sat fast time for the first time this year at a track where he has already won 3 races in 2009. After the inversion David would start 5th. As the green dropped, David wasted no time in getting into 3rd position passing Dexter Jr and R.A. Brown, quickly making his way to Richard Childress development drivers Ty Dillon and Ryan Gifford.

David then managed his way around Dillon with about 20 laps to go setting his sights on Gifford. Gifford was also running the high line around the track with David glued to his rear bumper. With 6 laps to go the caution came out on the speedway setting up what would be an exciting finish. As the green dropped, David ran to the outside of Ryan off of turn two. Thats where it all went downhill. Apparently Gifford did not like the fact he had some competition for the first time in the race and ran Wilson straight into the backstretch wall climbing the side of David's car and ending the night for Wilson. This is not the first time he has done this to someone as he has wrecked several cars in his few attempts at the track.

The night looked much like the one a few weeks back when Kevin Leight also ran David into the outside wall when being challeneged on the outside.

David's weekend would get much better on Saturday night where he was competing in the USAR Pro Cup race at Hickory Motor Speedway where he competes on a weekly basis in the LFR late model. In only his 5th career pro cup start David set fast time in his Wilson Excavators #57 Ford with a 15.71.

In a race filled with ups and downs, David managed to hang out in the top 10 all night saving his tires and equipment until it mattered the most. With 5 laps to go David had moved into 2nd place running down leader and past series champion Clay Rogers. Coming to the white flag Wilson drove underneath Rogers coming off of turn two and completed the pass to take his first ever victory in the USAR series and also his first win at a track that has been very challenging all year.

Hard work and dedication to testing all year long in the LFR late model paid off big for David as he was able to take the experience he has gained all year and turn it into the biggest win of his career.

Next week David and his team will try to capture their first NASCAR Whelen series win at Hickory Speedway and add to the running total at Tri County.
